A New York City window designer is looking for the missing baby Jesus at Christmas.
PITCH
New York City window designer Raymond Cole creates a Living Manger for Saks Fifth Avenue customers to enjoy on Christmas Eve. Things go a bit haywire when the Little Drummer Boy goes missing, and then so does the baby Jesus. After New York City Police Department Officers arrive to find the Christmas infant, Raymond refuses a plastic baby as a stand-in. He insists that the child is found. After the infant’s mother apologizes for breast feeding her son at a bad time, a living baby Jesus returns to his straw bed. His mother promises not to make any more confusion. When the zoo animals arrive, the window goes live for the public. It’s the best Christmas ever! Even if Raymond has to use a pooper scooper.
SYNOPSIS
On Christmas Eve, Raymond Cole, a famous Saks Fifth Avenue window designer, is trying to launch a magical manger—complete with a real baby, live animals, and an actual child drummer—but he’s come up against a lot of havoc. After hours of planning and arranging, the Little Drummer Boy actor has gone missing. Shoppers on the street stop to watch his bewilderment in the window. Upset by the chaos, Raymond draws the curtain. The Living Manger window display is about to premiere at any moment as soon as Raymond can finish it a last-minute rehearsal. Every holiday season, the New Yorkers gather outside the windows on Fifth Avenue to celebrate the season. Not only is Raymond famous for his window displays, but also his portrait photography. Often, Ramona is the subject of his photography. The holidays, however, are his busiest season, with extravagant Christmas and Hanukkah themes in his popular window designs.
When all seems lost, the Saks Fifth Avenue manager tracks down the Little Drummer Boy in the jewelry department. Raymond begs the little boy to stand in one place and keep drumming because everyone is watching. Then, just when it seems that things calm down, Athena, Raymond’s assistant, realizes that the baby Jesus has gone missing. She tells Raymond the bad news and says she thinks the baby might have been kidnapped. She called to make a police report. As New York City Police Department Officers arrive with guns and badges, Raymond grows more frantic. As the police officers search for the real baby, Athena gets a plastic baby from the toy section as a possible stand-in. Raymond rejects it and says that the child needs to be found before the curtain goes up!
Just when Raymond is about to have a breakdown, the mother of the missing baby walks into the window with Jesus under the shawl over her shoulder. She apologizes and says she was breastfeeding him in the Saks restaurant. Raymond smiles and tries to be glad the baby is found. Athena grabs the actors and positions them in the Living Manger, complete with the baby Jesus in his cradle, along with Mary, Joseph, the Three Wise Men, Shepherds, Angels, and the Little Drummer Boy. After the animals are all in place with pooper scoopers at hand, the window goes live! Then, Raymond’s phone rings, and it’s his proud wife, Ramona, on the line, who ushers an animal rights protest group down the street. The drama at the Living Manger never really ends, but what is Christmas without a little chaos?
